Assessment of Safety Risks Using an Artificial Intelligence Approach in the Oil Drilling Industry
Abstract
This study aims to identify the most significant safety risks in the oil drilling industry and propose solutions and methods to prevent or mitigate safety-related injuries using an Artificial Intelligence (AI) approach to reduce risks and errors, including oil well blowouts. The research methodology includes field and library studies, interviews with specialists, experts, and professionals in oil well drilling, and the use of AI methods for data analysis. After identifying existing challenges and hazards, the study adopted a combined qualitative and quantitative approach and is considered developmental-applied research; data were collected using a non-experimental (descriptive-survey) method. The findings indicate that previous studies identified hazardous and accident-causing factors, which were then evaluated through questionnaires and interviews with experts. The analyses show that the effects of these factors, according to experts and AI models, are aligned, with only minor differences. Furthermore, chatbots have provided solutions for some factors to prevent and reduce accidents, with a broader range of impact than the solutions proposed by experts actively working in the drilling field. These results support applying AI platforms to improve industrial safety and reduce hazards. The use of AI as a safety advisor and safety assistant can significantly reduce costs and irreversible consequences and enhance efficiency and safety in drilling processes.
